Today is my turn to write the Beader's Blog.  Some mornings you want to stay in bed and others you hit the ground running.  Getting up each day and living life with integrity, determination, caring and purpose is not always easy.  As for me I do my best but somehow always feel exhausted.  That is why today I take my hat off to Laura Gagliardi!

I admire Laura for all her efforts.  She is a fabulous Mom and wife.  A terrific daughter and sister.  She cares about the people in her community.  Laura not only takes care of her family and home but does a fabulous job running All About Beads.  I don't know how she does it.   (I know that I couldn't!)

The store to her is more then "just a hobby."   It is a dream she has had for a number of years.   A dream she turned into a reality with hard work, honesty, common sense, intelligence and determination.  Laura cares about the people that come into visit All About Beads.  She wants to make sure they have the best shopping experience possible.  She is the type of person who, if something isn't right for a client will do her best to make it right.   Working with her is easy because she is focused and well prepared, but appreciates a good joke and has a infectious laugh.   I am always amazed to see how many of the customers at All About Beads have become more then acquaintances.

So after your morning coffee (or in my case tea) stop off at All About Beads and check out the latest in beads and findings.  Sign up for a class or schedule a private one with friends.  If you don't already know her, get to know Laura and the staff at All About Beads.  You won't be disappointed and you will find that special kind of place to have some time for yourself.  If you don't know how to bead, Laura can teach you, because after all Beading really is fun for every one! According to the Pantone Color Institute®, the 2010 color for the year is, PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise. Turquoise is a green-blue color. It brings to mind soothing, calm, tropical waters.  It is an ancient color and gem stone found in jewelry design, interiors and in fashion.

“In many cultures, Turquoise occupies a very special position in the world of color,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”

At All About Beads we carry a wide variety of Turquoise beads ranging in color.  We carry a variety of Turquoise beads, including seed beads, our ever popular Swarovski® crystal bi-cones and other gorgeous beads.

For many years I wanted to have my own beading business.  When my family and I moved to Allentown from Staten Island, NY, I was thrilled to open All About Beads.  It has been a joy to meet all of you and have time to work at something I love.

Prior to opening the store, I was, and still am, a Tupperware representative.  I use many of the Tupperware products in All About Beads for storage and displays. Besides having the Allentown store, running the All About Beads Shop on line  at http://www.allaboutbeadsshop.org , I have my Tupperware site.  So if anyone needs to make a Tupperware purchase please check out my site at  http://my2.tupperware.com/tup-html/L/lotsfun-welcome.html Thank you!

Happy New Year fellow beaders!  Today's blog is written by Debby, our Web Master.

"My new favorite type of jewelry for 2010 is Steampunk!  When translated into jewelry art, is a combination of styles that have evolved into a contemporary, edgy, Victorian style of design. The best way I can explain it is to say Steampunk is a meld of Victorian-Edwardian fashion and technology along with Cyberpunk, Lolita (Japanese street fashion based on Rococo and Victorian designs) Science Fiction and Goth aesthetics.  It is fun, edgy and a very creative way to express yourself.  Tonight I sat at my desk and did extensive research on the subject of Steampunk and found some very interesting sites dedicated to the unconventional nature of the movement in design, clothing and literature.  As an artist, I am looking for the more upbeat side of Steampunk; if there is such a thing within the movement.

I suggest the following sites, movies and books for more inspiration and to understand this unique form of expression. Steampunk Threads (If I were only a few pounds lighter and a few years younger I would wear their clothing in a heart beat!) @  http://steampunkthreads.com  and The Steampunk Scholar @ http://steampunkscholar.blogspot.com and the Lighter Side of Steampunk @ http://brassgoggles.co.uk/blog/   Also check out movies like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Loved this movie-seen it 6 times!), Wild Wild West ( Will Smith, Kevin Kline or the original with Robert Conrad, Ross Martin) and the new Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law) @ http://sherlock-holmes-movie.warnerbros.com   In addition read some of the literature that started it all, Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and H. G. Wells'  The Time Machine.  You may also see a great Steampunk article and video on MTV's site written by Andrew Ross Rowe @     http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1595812/20080926/abney_park.jhtml

All About Beads has some great materials to start you off on your Steampunk jewelry adventure.   Antique copper toggles, copper crimp beads, copper, amber and black bi-cone crystals, twisted and smooth copper and black jump rings, watch faces, copper ear wires, charms, a terrific variety of wires, pearls, rose bud and long barrel space beads (in different metal finishes), chains, head pins, cat's eye beads, deep red, purple, amber, black and gray beads, end caps and the list goes on.  Visit Laura at the Allentown store or go on line and shop @ http://www.allaboutbeadsshop.org"   Best to all in 2010! Debby

The New Year is almost here!  Oh my time is just flying by!  I would like to share this poem with you written by Helen Steiner Rice.

A New Years Prayer

God grant us this year a wider view,

So we see others' faults through the eyes of You.

Teach us to judge not with hasty tongue,

Neither the adult ... nor the young.

Give us patience and grace to endure

And a stronger faith so we feel secure.

Instead of remembering, help us forget

The irritations that caused us to fret.

Freely forgiving for some offense

And finding each day a rich recompense.

In offering a friendly, helping hand

And trying in all ways to understand;

That all of us whoever we are ...

Are trying to reach an unreachable star.

For the great and small ... the good and bad,

The young and old ... the sad and glad

Are asking today; Is life worth living?

The answer is only in, loving and giving.

For only Love can make man kind

And Kindness of Heart brings Peace of Mind.

By giving love, we can start this year

To lift the clouds of hate and fear.

Wishing you the very best in 2010

- Laura and the staff at All About Beads

I was compelled to stop everything I was working on today to write a quick note to all of our faithful friends.  I have had some wonderful experiences this past year at All About Beads.  So many of you have commented on how much you love the store and the web sites.   I especially want to thank you for your support at the end of August when I was recovering from surgery. I want to reassure all of you that I am completely recovered!  Everyone has some bumpy spots in the road of life and the months of August and September were mine.  Thank you again so much for your gracious attitude in working with me during this difficult period.

As the holidays approach I am counting my blessings and would like to thank my faithful customers old and new for their patronage.    I would like to share a few of the e-mails and notes All About Beads received in the past few days.  The comments made are genuinely appreciated and express the true meaning of the Hanukkah-Christmas Holiday Season.  I wish you all peace and joy!

Dear Laura, Warm greeting to you this Christmas.  I want to thank you for your continued support and excellent customer service for the community of Our Lady of Grace Greek Catholic Mission.   It is rare in this day and age to find people with such warmth and patience in the busy world that we live in.  Archdeacon John DeMeis, President, Society of  Our Lady of Grace Greek Catholic Mission.

Dear Laura and the gals at All About Beads,  Happy Holidays!   Thank you for patiently answering my "hundreds of questions about making jewelry."  I am very happy with your store and website and will recommend you to others!  Dianne Price

Dear Laura, Getting married can be so stressful, you made choosing the jewelry for my bridesmaid gifts so much easier. Thank you for the beautiful necklaces and earrings you made for the girls in my bridal party.  Everyone loved their gifts.  I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Cindy Sellitto

Happy Hanukkah!   Laura, thanks for helping me to make the gift for my Mom.  She loved the bracelet!  Deborah Friedman

Dear Laura,  I was so happy to see you back on your feet and teaching classes.  I made 4 Puffed hearts for Christmas and Hanukkah gifts .  Thank you and Paula for following up with me when I got stuck.  You are the best!   Penny Milotta

Thanks to our readers for some helpful hints.

Joyce J. from Allentown  writes,  "I always shop at All About Beads when ever I am visiting which is about five or six times a month.   I love your store!   My suggestion to help keep my beads and findings neat is to use the large plastic containers that baby wipes and band-aids come in.  You can fit many bead tubes in these containers and they are great if you want to take a small project with you when traveling or waiting for an appointment."

Tara B. from Kutztown, writes, " Your on line store is terrific.  I like your wire selection, it is so hard to find good wires in a lot of craft stores or on line.  My suggestion comes more on the line of creative ideas.  I look at pictures from museum costume collections and make color copies of the jewelry displayed in books I buy from the museums or get from the library.  I also buy postcards of jewelry from the museum collections.  I keep the pictures in a file and use them for inspiration when I get stuck looking for a new idea."  Tara even sent us one of the pictures that recently inspired her. An Egyptian necklace, at left.

"My favorite  way to keep the clutter down is to use a nuts, bolts and screw holder.  You can by one at your local hardware store for about 20 dollars and it really keeps things neat.  You can set it on your craft table or hang it on the wall," says Penny S. from Allentown.

Don't blink,  Hanukkah and Christmas are almost here!

Every day take a breather, even if it is just to sit and enjoy a cup of tea!

Sometimes we get so busy that clutter starts to pile up around us without our realizing it.  There are a number of television programs where the host and a team of de-cluttering and decorating experts help a family in need to get things organized.  This made me think to ask our readers, "What do you do to de-clutter your beading work area and collection of beads and findings?"  E-mail me your suggestions and in a few weeks I will publish your name and suggestion under the Beader's Blog.  E-mail me at allaboutbead@yahoo.com with Beader's Blog beading hints in the subject line.  Happy organized and fun beading!

With the holidays just around the corner, my thoughts immediately turn to family, friends and the lack of time that seems to be so prevalent during the Fall and Winter months.  I really want this holiday season to be meaningful and as stress-free as possible! So I am starting my holiday preparations early! Join me and the staff at All About Beads and plan your special holiday jewelry and gift making during the next few weeks.

Make a fun Candy Cane as a teacher's gift or a German Crystal Spider ornament for your tree.  The Spider ornament is a very popular beaded craft project for this season.

We have heard many variations as how the spider became a favorite ornament, but the one we know best goes something like this; "A German family had brought their Christmas tree in from the forest, set it up and decorated it on Christmas Eve.  Everyone went to bed.  A family of spiders, who had seen the tree from a corner of the living room, were so tempted by the tree's beauty that they crept up its boughs and wove their fine and beautiful webs to add to the holiday magic.   The spiders wanted to honor the birthday of the baby Jesus along with the human family.  An angel was touched by the beauty of the tree and spiders humble gift, so she touched their webs and turned them into webs of spun silver and gold.  When the family awoke on Christmas morning they were overwhelmed by the trees beauty.  So today we hang  a crystal spider on the tree to remind us that even the most humblest of gifts, if they come from the heart, are more precious than silver and gold."

Imagine my surprise, while shopping for paint, I came across the most interesting brochure from the Valspar paint company.

To my amusement on the cover of the paint sample was a beaded bracelet.   This goes to prove that artistic color motivation and design elements can come from any source.

After thinking about it I realized the colors on the paint sample could be a great inspiration for jewelry designs.  I opened up my bead collection and did a color study using the Valspar colors.  The one I used had great rich colors of Lilac, Violet, Purple, Earthy Blues, Taupe, Silver, Gray, White and Gold.  What a inviting and scrumptious color pallet!  You can see the colors at www.valspar.com

Just so you know I picked the Valspar Warm Buff, a cozy golden color, to paint my family room. I plan to add purple accents and a woven taupe and purple rug with my comfortable leather sofa and lounge chair.    Now my family room will be the perfect place to sit and bead on a chill winter evening.  Next time you go to the home improvement store take a few minutes to browse through the paint isle and look for some beading inspiration.

Fall is here!  A chill is in the air and Halloween decorations are everywhere.  Our October calendar is full of fabulous beading projects that you can make as holiday gifts or to treat yourself.   Take our Crystal Spider Class, it is a blast and has become very popular.

Tilghman Square will be hosting its Annual Halloween Night on Thursday, October 22nd from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.  Participating store will be giving out candy to all the kids.

As I suggested last year, I encourage families to Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF.  The money collected is used to help children all over the world who were less fortunate.  Please consider visiting the Trick-or Treat for UNICEF web site @ http://youth.unicefusa.org/trickortreat/ and this October, make Halloween count by Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF.   Thank you!

Parents are dusting off their kids’ backpacks, kids are wishing it was still summer vacation and teachers are getting ready for the return of their students for back-to-school week.  With all of the rain we had this season it seems like summer never really had the chance to get started.    Yet here we are again getting ready for a new school year.

I can't believe that it is time to bet the kids back on the yellow school bus.  Next it will be Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Time really does fly by and we have to enjoy every moment we can.

I found this poem on-line and it made me think about how special our children are.  I just wanted to share it with you.  Enjoy back-to-school week!

One Hundred Years from Now

by Forest Witcraft

One Hundred Years from now It will not matter what kind of car I drove,

What kind of house I lived in, how much money was in my bank account nor what my clothes looked like.

But the world may be a better place because I was important in the life of a child.

Believe it or not, the Fall season is right around the corner, and All About Beads has everything you need to know what's in and what's out for the Fall and Winter beading season.  Come in during the month of August and prepare for the Fall and Winter season.   Gold makes a return to the bead fashion pallet.  Crystals, as always, are so popular with black beads and findings as complements to crystal work as well as an independent trend.

Carnelian (a deep red-orange) beads and stones are hot from October to January 2010. Red and amethyst are still strong contenders.  All blues hues are huge this Winter.  Colors like; Spruce, Oyster, Glacier, Ink, Lapis, Sage and Blue-Greens reflect the time of the season but add a sparkle and shine.

Multicolored stone with purple and blue undertones are in the forefront of fashion in both the United States and Europe.  You'll find these colors in semiprecious beads, stones, glass and crystal beads too.

Recently a group of us gals got together to have an informal beading session.  The subject of chocolate came up and hands down it is something we all love to enjoy!  It seems that a good bite of chocolate can sooth the soul.  The subject then turned to things that help us to relax and things we look forward to; of course beading was at the top of the list of hobbies.

Family and friends as well as faith were the three top most important things in all of our lives, as well they should be. Many of the gals shared that beading was a way to enjoy the company of those they love.  Within the group we even had a family with three generations of beaders.

It made me thing that sometimes the simple things in life can be teaching and bonding moments.  Here at All About Beads we have been so blessed to share those moments with you.   So my wish for you is that your life be filled with the the best of the simple pleasures, lots of love, chocolate and of course beads!

Bring back the bling!  For a while I was seeing less glitter and beading on clothing items.  Now there seems to be an explosion of bling and beads everywhere I look.    The colors purple, amber and marigold are also hot, hot, hot.

All of the bling and glitter It made me think of the famous Auntie Mame  who always looked at life like a banquet and lived life to the fullest.  Sure Mame was a fictional character, but we can all take a page from her book and add some sparkle and spice into our lives.   Incorporate  some crystals to your jewelry designs.  Add rhinestones to your cell phone, dog or cat collar, pocketbook or favorite tote and hat.

Add bling to candle sticks, napkin rings, and wine glasses.    Create a candle ring or beaded tiebacks for your drapes.  Sew seed beads and crystals to your lampshades or incorporate seed beads into you embroidery projects.   Created a rhinestone covered lunch box.   Glue rhinestones on to your sneakers or watch band.  Better yet create a beaded band to go with all your outfits.

Come into All About Beads we can help you get started with your projects and add sparkle into your life!

We are in the middle of the summer and all of the bead lovers I know are already planning their holiday gift giving.  It can take a great deal of time and care to select the right beads and findings to create the right gifts for the special people in our lives.   Come in to All About Beads and join us for Holidays in July!  We can help you plan and create your holiday gifts.

As I spend some time in the summer sun, and have a few extra moments, I want to express my gratitude for all of the all of the friends I have made these past few years, here at All About Beads.   Each and every one of you bring something special to the beader's table.  I especially love the Cha Cha summer bracelets you can make here at the store to express your sunny side.  Come in a select from our fun summer charms and colorful beads. Enjoy the warmth of the season!

Wow, time is flying by and there is never enough time to get things done!  Sorry I haven't been able to update the Beader's Blog as of late, but we have been so busy at All About Beads and at home with the family.  There does not seem to be a moment to breathe!

Yes, today is Father's Day!   A time when we get together and have the opportunity to honor our Dads.  So give your Dad a big hug and tell him how much you love him and what he means to you.

Just like our Mom, our Dad was an avid crafter and artist.  He helped us make our Halloween costumes, as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations. Long before the current crafting trends hit the market, Dad always kept us kids busy with crafting projects, yard work and household chores.  He worked long hours to make sure we had everything we needed. Along side our Mom, he made sure we stayed on the right track and out of trouble.

Happy Fathers Day, Dad!

School is out, if only the rain would stop soon so we could dry out.   If the rain is getting you down, call or come by the store and set up a private beading class.  Bring a few friends.  It is a great way to chase away the rainy day blues!

We have a lot of fun planned during our special Holidays in July event.   Look at our Classes/Calendar and start working on your holiday gifts.   Al crafters know that you have to start early to get your craft gift projects ready on time.  So join us and start beading!!!

After a very busy month of preparing for a family wedding the weekend has come an gone and we are now back to normal, or as normal as life can be.  Of course the bride was beautiful and the groom handsome; both were very joyful and so was the entire family.  We were grateful for the beautiful weather this weekend.

The jewelry worn by the bridal party was, as you could guess, made by the family members here at All About Beads.   If you have a wedding coming up, call us for a consultation and book a beading session for your bridal party to make those unique jewelry gifts for your family members and friends, too.

In addition we have started making Mother's Day gifts.  Our Mother's Name bracelet is always popular as is our multi-birthstone bracelet to mark the births of Mom, her children and grandchildren.   Call to arrange a time to come in and make your personalized Mother's Day present and take advantage of our Mother's Day 25% off coupon.

To the right is one of my favorite pictures showing three generations of Mothers in our family. My two sisters and I always loved Mother's Day because we adore our Grandmother and our Mom.   Every year we celebrate with a big family brunch.  Present are all the generations of parent's, children and grandchildren.  We reminisce, laugh, exchange gifts and just enjoy being together.  We cherish our time together and are so appreciative of the bond we share and and love we have for one another.  May your Mother's Day be a joyful one!

Color is such an important part of our environment and an intricate part of jewelry design.   As many of you know, it is our opinion here at All About Beads that trends give you an "idea" of what is "in" but the final word of what is "in" is really up to you.  Artistic creativity is about the colors you love and how you enjoy incorporating them into your designs.   With that said, I would still like to share with your some of the color forecasts for Spring and Summer 2009 colors.

According to Pantone the 2009 color for the year is, PANTONE 14-0848 Mimosa.  According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®, "Mimosa embodies hopefulness and reassurance in a climate of change. The color yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance. "Mimosa also speaks to enlightenment, as it is a hue that sparks imagination and innovation." The 2009 Spring color report includes: Fuchsia Red, Salmon Rose, Palace Blue, Lucite Green, Super Lemon, Dark Citron, Lavender, Vibrant Green, Slate Gray and Rose Dust, these colors all border on neutrals and add a calming effect.

In addition the Swarovski pallet includes naturals, as well as camouflage and futuristic hues.  This includes luscious colors such as; tangerine, shades of pink and orange, multi blues and greens.   To read more about Swarovski color trends and forecasts go to http://www.crystallized.com

Last year All About Beads highlighted the showing of the Glass Beads of Ghana at the Newark Museum.  We are happy to share with you that the show has been extended through March 21, 2010.  If you should have the opportunity to visit the Newark Museum in Newark, New Jersey it is a program with viewing.  For more information go to the Museum's web site @ http://www.newarkmuseum.org/museum_default_page.aspx?id=5894

In addition the Newark Museum is hosting beading classes this spring.  All About Beads recommends Beading between YOUR Lines Bracelet with Mary Alexander.  The class utilizes the Peyote Beading technique.  For more information contact the Newark Museum at 49 Washington Street, Newark, NJ 07102-3176 or phone 973-596-6550.

It is 6:00 A.M. and I am looking at the window at the latest late winter storm.  I am grateful to be inside warm and toasty.  I am thinking about the times back to when we were young and we would look forward to school closing on such a snowy day.  Things haven't changed much, our kids do the same.

A cold snowy day is a great opportunity to do some indoor organization. (Organizing beads that is not house work .) Take the time to look through your bead supplies.  See what finding you are short on. Organize your beads by color and style. Look through your jewelry box and see if there are new ways to incorporate old pieces into new looks.  Repair or restring damaged pieces or loose necklaces.  Finish a project that you have put aside for awhile.  Snuggle up under a blanket with a bead book or magazine and find out the new styles and trends.   Teach your child how to make a simple string necklace or bracelet. In other words, enjoy yourself.

Inspiration comes in many forms and the Allentown Art Museum is chock full of great ideas for the creative beader to draw from.   We are fortunate to have some fabulous shows coming to our own hometown.  I strongly recommend a visit to the Allentown Art Museum for anyone interested in the art of beading. While some of the programs presented do not have a direct relationship to fashion, they may get your creative juices flowing and set off a spark of inspiration that transcends the Arts and Crafts mediums.  No matter what your age or skill level you will come away from the Museum with a new appreciation for color, design and creativity.  Two suggestions for viewing are:

February 1 – May 3, 2009 the Museum will show, Monet to Matisse: French Masterworks from the Dixon Gallery and Gardens Kress Gallery.  What a glorious inspiration in color and fluidity.

May 17 – August 9, 2009 the museum will host, Fashion in Film: Period Costumes for the Screen in the Kress and Rodale Galleries.  A stunning example of bead work and embroidery is shown on the Anthony Powell jacket. It is a jeweled outfit worn by the Little Maharajah in the movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.  The exhibition will also showcase some of the historical textiles in the Allentown Art Museum's own collection.

For more information go to the Allentown Art Museum's web site at http://www.allentownartmuseum.org/exhibitions/ or call 610-432-4333.

Today's Beader's Blog is a shout out of thanks to Shirley M. from Debby, our Web Master!

Shirley,  Thank you so much for the instructions on how to make the Crocheted Cocktail Rings.   I was so kind of you to remember that I was looking for directions on how to make one. My Mother-in-law had one made for herself years ago and I have been looking for good instructions ever since.  I especially love the pearl ring.   They were so popular in the 70's and 80's and now they are back in style.  Happy New Year!   Debby

I especially would like to thank all of our customers for their loyal support.  In addition, thank you to my family for their encouragement.

I would like to mention Emily, All About Beads' children's instructor, party coordinator and designer.  I appreciation all her hard work.  Thanks to our Web Master and Art Director, Debby for her input and design work.  Thank you to Joanne for her wisdom and advice.

Beading is more than a craft or a hobby for many of us.  It is an expression of personal creativity, a fashion statement  and when we bead in groups, such as in a class or a Girls' Night Out, it becomes a social event that fosters friendship and artistic expression.  I so look forward to 2009 and the upcoming trends and products that will be available to the bead community.  I am sure you are too.  To all our customers and friends old and new...Happy New Year!

Today's Beader's Blog topic is a comment from one of our beading friends, Lynne Harriet from NJ.  Lynne writes, "When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to the following address, A Recovering American Soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center, 6900 Georgia Avenue, W. Washington , D.C. 20307-5001. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get. Include a personal note written in the card thanking them for their service to the USA."

A great Idea!!! When you are making out your holiday card list this year, please include our service men and women.  I know how generous and caring beaders are, so I wanted to share Lynn's idea with you!

If you have a great idea that you want to share with your fellow beaders, send it to us here at All About Beads at BeadingFunForEveryone@hotmail.com  We can not guarantee to publish all of your comments, but we look for ideas that you can share about the art of beading and special hits or suggestions like the one form Lynne.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and do not forget to stop by our Allentown store to work on your holiday gifts.  We are getting tons of requests for the Crystal Heart Class and for pre-made orders of the hearts and other items.  You may order gifts on line or come into the store.  As well as the Hearts, we have our Crystal Love Potion Bottles and Crystal Balls.  Visit our All About Beads' On-Line Shop at http://www.allaboutbeadsshop.org

With the fun of the holidays on the way I am reflecting on others who may not be as fortunate as the rest of us.   Times are tough for everyone, but there are still many people who are less fortunate and need our support.  Please check our News/Events page and consider helping the Sixth Street Shelter in Allentown.  The Shelter has set up a food drive and has asked us to participate.  You can drop off donations for the Shelter's food pantry here at All About Beads.  Thank you!

Where does your inspiration come from?   If you are looking for some fresh ideas in design get new insight from the past.  Looking at the history and the place of beading in design, religion and culture is a wonderful way to get your creative juices flowing, especially when you find yourself in a design slump.  All About Beads suggest a virtual or real time visit to The Detroit Institute of Art located in Detroit, Michigan.

The Detroit Institute of Art has a  wonderful collection of beaded artifacts to spark your creativity.  Case in point is a fiber beaded bag, C. 1870, attributed to the skilled crafts of the Ottawa, Native American People.   A piece of art work, like this bag, could be a inspiration for your own amulet bag, a bracelet or wall hanging .   The Detroit Institute of Art houses many works from a multitude of countries.  Each piece reflects the culture, history and voice of the individual designer and his or her people. To find more inspiration from the Institute's collection go to http://www.dia.org/
